Earth Friendly Fall Decor Ideas

Featuring Sustainable Crafts & Great Secondhand Finds

As a huge fan of fall, I’m always looking for fun and sustainable ways to decorate and celebrate this wonderful season. So, here are some great crafts and fall decor finds to inspire you!

Crafts

Here are three easy craft ideas for the fall season, that encourage compostable decor and recycling goods into something new!

Mini Jack-O-Lanterns

This simple craft is a fun and compostable way to decorate for the season! It's perfect for adding to tablescapes and even for serving food. They're also great for adding to simmer pots or for including in simmer pot gifts!

Supplies:

Orange(s)

Scissors

Pen/Marker

Spoon

Instructions:

Start out by drawing your jack-o-lantern design on your fruit. Then, cut off the top of the orange and use a spoon to scoop out all the fruit flesh. Once the inside is clean, cut out your jack-o-lantern face!

Ghost Garland
ghost garland recycled craft for fall

Not only are these ghosts super cute, but this craft is perfect for recycling old pages from books, magazines, & newspapers!

Supplies:

Scissors

Pencil

Old Pages

Black Marker

Twine (or string)

Tape (or glue)

Instructions:

Lightly draw out your ghost on a page (with a pencil) and then cut out the ghost! Once cut, draw on different expressions with your marker. Cut your twine out to your desired length and place your ghosts along it, to see where you want them to go. Then, tape (or glue) your ghosts onto your twine (you can also puncture your ghosts and string them that way.) Hang or drape wherever you desire!

Reed Diffuser

I made a reed diffuser for the first time recently, and now I’m obsessed! They're a great alternative to candles, and can be made using secondhand vases/jars and your favorite essential oils.

Supplies:

Diffuser Glass (examples pictured below)

Essential Oils

Coconut Oil or Witch Hazel

Diffuser Reeds (3-7)

Instructions:

Fill your diffuser glass with enough coconut oil (or witch hazel) to fill the bottom several inches (about 1/4 cup), then add your favorite essential oils. I highly recommend playing with: Spearmint, Cedar Wood, Vanilla, Cinnamon, Pine, & Orange. These are great for fall scents! After you've added your essential oils, add your reeds and let them soak for about 15 minutes. After they've soaked, flip them around and enjoy the sweet scent!
